The greeting above, welcomes you to the website of the Galtee Bee Breeding Group (GBBG). All aspects of breeding bees are pursued with vigour and great dedication by a membership that strives for excellence by educating it's members, and others, about the characteristics that should be present in order that the bees are docile and pleasant to handle as well as being productive honey gatherers. Much of the breeding work takes place at the group's main breeding apiary known as 'Dun Aonghusa' The picture below is a winter scene of the silver birch trees that border the apiary, click on the picture or the link above for more information on the apiary itself. |
| The website is best navigated from the comprehensive index page and site search facility that can be accessed using the button shown at right which exists at top left on all sub pages. |

At the Apimondia world beekeeping congress of 2005, this website was awarded the silver medal, the reproduction below shows the obverse and reverse of the medal on an emerald green padded cushion.
Much of the work described on this website is based on breeding dark native strains of bee in Ireland, but the principles described can be applied to any other race or strain of bee providing that you already know the behavioural parameters for the pure bred bees of your chosen type.
